What To Expect

Modern Adventures are designed to showcase the best of a destination, and promote community, sharing and celebration. We thoughtfully curate all elements for an immersive, diverse experience—always with some free time to relax and soak in the atmosphere.

The Chile Experience

Shimmering lakes, glaciers and snow-capped peaks as far south you can go without hitting iceget ready for an unforgettable 11-day exploration of Chile's Aysén region, and experience first-hand why it’s one of the trekking world’s great secrets.

Over eight of the eleven days we're together, we'll trek in parts of Patagonia few have ever experienced: through Cerro Castillo National Reserve and the new Patagonia National Park (the brainchild of Doug and Kristin Tompkins of The North Face fame). Our trek is fully supported and led by experienced local guides. Our nights are spent camping, and at elegant, comfortable lodges and hotels.

Activity Level: Hard

This trek is accessible for most age levels who maintain good physical fitness and are prepared for the demands of hiking in remote mountainous areas. We’ll cover 3-12 miles a day, and conquer wind, snow, rain and sunny skies—sometimes all in the same day. Your physical conditioning should start no later than two months prior to our trip departure. Your regimen should include walking or hiking in the boots you intend to wear with your loaded 40-50-liter backpack (see Gear & Packing for more details).

How We Eat

All meals and snacks are provided for you during the duration of this adventure. We’ll have an incredible array of traditional Chilean foods, hot and cold camps breakfasts in the morning, picnic boxed lunches during our trekking days, and delicious dinners prepared at camp at night—or at the lodges we stay at. We’ll also be treated to an amazing authentic Patagonia BBQ!

Special Dietary Needs

Traveling with dietary restrictions or allergies can be a challenge, but we’re here to help. Prior to your departure, we’ll send you a questionnaire where you can inform us of any special dietary needs you have. Depending on the information you give us, we will work with our Chile partners to adjust menus and be aware of allergies and restrictions on our trip. We kindly request that any changes to our menu are based on need rather than preference, as we work very hard to curate an exceptional dining experience that is difficult to change.

Who's Going On This Trip?

This adventure is limited to no more than 12 people plus your Modern Adventure team. We will be joined by expert expedition guides, each highly qualified. They will be with us for the entirety of the adventure, along with porters to help carry the group's gear.

Group travel is a wonderful way to meet new people and have shared experiences together. Our Outside+ experiences are fun and inclusive. You can expect to be joined by a diverse group of people in terms of age, background and interests—including solo travelers, couples and friends traveling together. The common unifier of our guests is that they are curious, adventurous, and independent. This adventure is for travelers age 18 and above.

Traveling as a Group

We believe group travel is an intimate, empowering and fun way to learn about yourself and others. Like any good relationship, it thrives with respect. We ask that every guest honors the key times in a day to ensure everyone's experience is the absolute best is can be. This is everyone's adventure!
